Sylvia Ann Leier
April 16, 1946 - June 21, 2016
Sylvia Ann Leier, 70, of Esmond, ND, passed away at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, ND on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM Friday, June 24, 2016 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond, ND with Fr. Brian Bachmeier celebrating the mass. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church from 5:00PM to 7:00PM with a Rosary starting at 7:00PM and Vigil Service beginning at 7:30PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Burial will take place at the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Esmond, ND. Music will be provided by Helen Arnold and Rosalie Axtman. Casket Bearers will be Mark Brown, Kent Brown, Tim Leier, Lance Leier, Bobby Sage, Ryan Thompson, Michael Thompson and Jason Thompson. Honorary casket bearers are Sylvia's grandchildren and great grandson as well as the Esmond VFW Auxiliary Post #4251.
Sylvia Ann was born on April 16, 1946 to Ivan and Betty (Berry) Thompson in Rugby, ND. She was raised in Fillmore, ND until the 9th grade before moving to Esmond, ND where she graduated high school in 1964. Sylvia married the love of her life, Dennis, on February 15, 1964 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond. The couple settled in Esmond where they raised three daughters: Stacy, Sonya and Shanda.
Sylvia worked many jobs while living in Esmond. She worked at Ann’s Café, the Esmond Locker Plant, the C&R Lounge, the Postal Offices in both Esmond and Maddock and sold hail insurance. In 1998, Sylvia joined Dennis as co-owner of the Leier Construction Inc. She was a dedicated member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church where she served as a Trustee, Secretary and participated in the Ladies Aid. Sylvia was also a member of the Esmond VFW Auxiliary Post #4251 and the Esmond Ambulance Service. She loved to bake and was a very good cook. Sylvia liked playing cards and gardening, but her most joy came from watching her grandchildren play sporting events.
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dennis; daughters, Stacy (Brian) Luehring, Sonya (Reid) Skinner and Shanda (Corey) Leintz; grandchildren, Brent (Emilee) Luehring, Tyler Luehring, Garrett and Brenna Skinner, Jeremy and Thomas Leintz; great grandson, Beckhem Luehring; siblings, James (Dottie) Thompson, Gloria (Lenis) Thompson, Curtis (Joan) Thompson and Byron (Sandy) Thompson; brothers-in-law, James, Curtis and Terry; sisters-in-law, Patty, Dorothy, Eunice, Karen and Nancy; aunts, Kathleen Gay and Grace Johnson; uncles, Wayne Berry, Henry Berry and Jack Thompson; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Betty Thompson; parents-in-law, Rochus and Helen Leier; in-laws, Rochus Jr., Don (Karen), Nick, Reuben, Bob and Lovey.
